Brown rice is a good source of minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, thiamin, niacin and vitamin B6 and manganese. Brown rice is high in fibre is known to aid in weight loss. Moong dal adds on to its protein content. Dates are rich in several vitamins, fibre, minerals, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium which are all beneficial for health. Addition of Flax seed will make it healthier as they shall provide us good fats essential for the body. Raisin and dates are natural sweeteners.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Brown Rice [raw] - 15 g
  • Moong dal / Pesara Pappu [raw] - 15 g
  • Green cardamom powder - ¼ tsp 
  • Water - 2 cups [200 ml]
  • Ghee - ½ tsp 
  • Raisins - 1 tsp
  • Almonds - 2 nos.
  • Flaxseed - 1 tsp
  • Fresh Date  - 1 no.
  • Cloves [optional] - 2 nos.

DIRECTIONS:
Step 1 Add moong dal / Pesara Pappu to a heavy bottom pan or pressure cooker and roast it till they turn fragrant.  Step 2 Wash brown rice at least twice and add to the same pan. Step 3 Pour 2 cups of water. Cook till soft either in the pressure cooker for 2 whistles or in the pot. Step 4 When the pressure from the cooker is down, remove the lid, add date and mash the rice. Add green cardamom powder. Mix and cook on a medium flame. Step 5 Heat a pan with ghee.  Step 6 To the pan, add clove and stir fry till gulden, turn off the stove and add raisins, almonds, and flax seed. Mix this with the rice.
