Urad dal is one of the richest sources of proteins & B vitamins. Urad dal also contains folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium. Urad dal helps to reduce cholesterol and improves cardiovascular health. It is rich in iron. They help to boost up the energy levels and keep us active.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Split black gram (urad dal), raw - 20 g
  • Onions (chopped) - ½ medium
  • Tomatoes (chopped) - ½ medium
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Asafoetida  a pinch
  • Ginger (chopped) - ½ tsp
  • Green chillies - 1
  • Red chilli powder - ¼ tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves - a few sprigs
  • Lemon juice - a few drops
  • Oil - ½ tsp
  • Salt - to taste

DIRECTIONS:
Step 1 Soak urad dal in water for 10-15 mins. Step 2  Drain and cook urad dal with salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup water till just done.  Step 3 Take care that the dal does not get overcooked and each grain remains separate.  Step 4 Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and onions and saute till fragrant. Chop green chillies and add along with red chilli powder, tomatoes and saute.  Step 5 Drain dal and add and mix gently. Adjust salt and mix.  Step 6 Chop coriander leaves and add and mix well. You can add lemon juice if you wish. Serve hot.
