Makhana also known as lotus seeds is an Asian water plant which is mainly cultivated for its edible seeds. Makhana is a rich source of calcium, protein, phosphorus, iron, thiamine & zinc. It is a completely nutritious & organic non cereal food. Makhana acts as an antioxidant, easily digestible, strengthen the heart & also very useful in cardiac protection. It helps to provide fullness as well, when combined with bengal gram & some spices & herbs tastes very good as a snack.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Makhana [roasted] - 15 g [1 bowl approx.] 
  • Bengal gram [roasted] - 1 tbsp
  • Oil -  ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder -  ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder -  ½ tsp
  • Hing - ¼ tsp
  • Chaat masala -  ½ tsp
  • Rock salt -  ¼ tsp

DIRECTIONS:
Step 1 Heat oil in a pan or kadhai. Add hing, Bengal gram, and makhana and roast for a good 5-6 minutes on a low flame till they become crisp and crunchy. keep on stirring in between.  Step 2 Lastly add all the spice powders and salt, except chaat masala. Switch off the fire as you don't want the spice powders to get burnt. Stir the whule mixture well. Step 3 Lastly, sprinkle the chaat masala powder and again mix well. Serve roasted makhana or once they coul down, store roasted makhana in an air-tight container.
